Mary lives in a Batey in la Romana, a community called Pica Pierda. A Batey is a community of people primarily of Haitian decent, like Mary, whom are supported by the sugar harvesting industry. This is a very hard industry with grueling conditions. The electricity and water are unreliable for the people in her community and the water is undrinkable. Mary sells used clothing in her community and this will be her first loan with Esperanza.
Thanks to Esperanza and your donation Erik, Mary is able to receive a Pap exam for the first time in her life. She is 32 years old with 4 children, and she wants to do all that she can to stay healthy for her family. Not only was Mary given the exam, but she was provided with vital information on the importance of the exam, which she will pass on to her daughters and friends.
Erik, your donation of $25 has given Mary the ability to live a healthy and cancer free life. She is eternally grateful for your tremendous gift and expresses her thanks!
